Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) new mystery spinner Suyash Sharma has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 by storm with his impressive debut performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday.

Suyash, born after India’s 2003 World Cup final against Australia, made an instant impact by taking three crucial wickets for just 30 runs in his full quota of four overs. Alongside Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, Suyash helped KKR demolish RCB for a paltry 123 while chasing a target of 205.

Suyash, who hails from Delhi and is a right-arm leg spinner, impressed the KKR management during his club matches in the national capital.

He was roped in by the two-time champions at his base price of INR 20 lakh at the IPL 2023 auction. Despite not having any previous professional cricket experience, Suyash made the most of his opportunity to bowl on the big stage and emerged as a new fan favorite at the iconic Eden Gardens.

Suyash’s Latest Achievement in the IPL

In their latest match on April 6, KKR posted a total of 204/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a fantastic partnership between Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh. Thakur scored a counter-attacking half-century off just 29 balls, while Singh made 46 off 33 balls.

In response, RCB started well, reaching 44/0 at one point. However, things quickly fell apart as KKR’s spinners took over. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, and debutant Suyash Sharma strangled the opposition to share nine wickets for just 61 runs in 11.4 overs.

Chakaravarthy was the main star with the ball, picking up 4/15, including the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, while Narine and Sharma took out Virat Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed.

The three KKR spinners shared nine wickets between them, creating a new IPL record for the most wickets taken by spinners in a single innings.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) previously held this record, with their spinners accounting for eight scalps in a single innings three times. This time, KKR’s spinners broke the record, taking nine wickets.

Notably, this match was also a record for the most wickets taken by spinners in a single IPL game, with a total of 12 wickets taken by both teams’ spinners.

This score beats the previous record of 11 wickets, which had happened three times, with KKR involved in two such instances. The KKR VS RCB match was undoubtedly one for the history books, with KKR putting on a spectacular show.

Post Match Statements

Following the match, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit praised Suyash’s attitude and his ability to bowl quickly through the air, making him difficult to pick for the opposition batsmen.

Captain Nitish Rana revealed that the team’s strategy was to put pressure on the rival batters in the middle overs, which Suyash helped execute with his impressive bowling skills.

Suyash’s performance in his debut match has already sparked interest among cricket fans and experts, and it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his form and become a regular member of the KKR squad in the upcoming matches of the IPL 2023.
