Ebadot Out of Asia Cup, Sakib To Replace Him
Bangladesh’s fast bowler, Ebadot Hossain, won’t be able to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup due to a knee injury he got while playing against Afghanistan last month. Ebadot was chosen for the 17-player squad just 10 days ago, but his recovery from the rehabilitation process took longer than expected. Instead, the 20-year-old newcomer, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, will take his place. Whether Ebadot will recover in time for the World Cup remains uncertain.
The 29-year-old fast bowler with a right-arm delivery is currently dealing with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that occurred during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month. Unfortunately, he has not progressed in his recovery as anticipated through rehabilitation, which means he won’t be able to participate in the Asia Cup.
Ebadot has managed to secure wickets in 11 out of the 12 ODIs he has participated in since his debut in August of last year. Despite his strong performance in white-ball cricket, he was only chosen to play one match against Afghanistan last month. Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the head sports physician at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), emphasized that Ebadot’s recuperation for the World Cup is the primary concern. To achieve this, they might even consider seeking advice from experts abroad.

“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury,” Dr Chowdhury addressed. “We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup. Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas.”
Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who hasn’t yet played at the international level in any of the three formats, has secured a total of 57 wickets in List A cricket from 37 matches. This includes an impressive record of nine wickets in three matches during the recently concluded ACC Emerging Men’s Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka. Additionally, he played a pivotal role by taking 17 wickets to contribute to Abahani Limited’s victory in the Dhaka Premier League in the previous season.
Tanzim Sakib becomes the ninth player from the victorious 2020 Under-19 World Cup team to graduate to the senior squad. Among them, Towhid Hridoy, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Parvez Hossain, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shamim Hossain, and Shoriful Islam have all marked their debut at the international level.
The medium-paced bowler is known for his skillful control and remarkable ability to generate swing. Tanzim Sakib is enthusiastic about seizing the chance to make a positive impact on his team’s performance during the tournament.
Here is the roster for the Asia Cup from Bangladesh: Captain Shakib Al Hasan, along with Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Naim, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan, and Tanzim Hasan.
