Rauf Helps Pakistan Win First ODI Against Afghanistan

Haris Rauf delivered a blazing display of rapid bowling on a slow pitch, crushing Afghanistan’s chances of securing their first ODI victory over Pakistan. The 29-year-old fast bowler performed impressively, taking 5 wickets for just 18 runs – his first instance of achieving five wickets in an ODI match. This exceptional performance led to Afghanistan being dismissed for a mere 59 runs, their second lowest score in ODI history, while attempting to chase down a target of 201 runs.

In a match featuring two teams with contrasting bowling abilities, Haris Rauf’s speed and aggression became overwhelming for Afghanistan, leading to their sudden downfall. Even though the target appeared achievable halfway through the game, Pakistan’s formidable pace quickly dispelled any notion of it being an easy task.

Shaheen Afridi didn’t manage to take a wicket in his opening over, which has become a bit of a usual occurrence for him. However, he compensated for this by claiming two wickets in his second over, removing Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah in consecutive deliveries. The Afghan captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, also fell without scoring a run, as he was dismissed by Shadab Khan. This left Afghanistan struggling at a score of 4/3.

Rauf entered the bowling attack in the eighth over of the inning and immediately made an impact by taking a wicket with his first delivery. Ikram Alikhil nicked his speedy delivery, resulting in a catch behind the stumps. Rauf commenced with two consecutive maiden overs and had the opportunity to dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz as well. However, Pakistan chose not to challenge a caught-behind decision. Nonetheless, Rauf didn’t take long to claim his target; he delivered a similar ball that moved in from a good length, prompting Gurbaz to attempt a shot, which led to an edge behind the wickets.

“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury,” Dr Chowdhury addressed. “We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup. Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas.”

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who hasn’t yet played at the international level in any of the three formats, has secured a total of 57 wickets in List A cricket from 37 matches.
