In a remarkable feat, Fargana and Nahida, the dynamic duo of Bangladesh women’s cricket, have achieved new heights in the latest ODI rankings as the Tigresses displayed a commendable performance during the recent ODI series against India, and their efforts were duly recognized in the latest ICC rankings.

The three-match ODI series ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw as the third and deciding match concluded in a tie. One of the standout moments of the series was Fargana Hoque’s remarkable century in the third ODI, making her the first Bangladeshi woman to achieve this feat in the format. It was a historic moment for Bangladesh women’s cricket.

While the Tigresses couldn’t clinch the T20I series against the same opposition, their performance in the ODI series garnered them well-deserved attention in the rankings. The latest ICC rankings update considered performances from the last two matches of the series, which was a part of the prestigious ICC Women’s Championship.

Fargana Hoque’s heroics with the bat earned her a remarkable 565 rating points, the highest ever achieved by a Bangladeshi woman batter. Moreover, her outstanding innings propelled her into the top 20, securing the 19th position in the ICC rankings. This achievement marked a significant milestone for Fargana, surpassing the previous best of Rumana Ahmed, who held the 25th position back in February 2017.

Not to be outdone, spinner Nahida Akter also soared to new heights with her impressive performance in the final ODI. Her figures of three for 37 helped her secure the 19th position in the bowling rankings, another unprecedented achievement for a Bangladesh bowler. Prior to Nahida’s feat, Salma Khatun had held the best position for a Bangladeshi bowler, reaching 20th position in December 2022.

Prior to this series, Rabeya Khan was not even in the top 100. However, thanks to her outstanding performance, she has made a massive leap of 60 places and currently holds the 63rd position in the rankings.

In contrast, the Indian players also experienced significant gains in the rankings. Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a match-winning innings of 86 in the second ODI, climbed an impressive 41 places to secure the 55th position. Meanwhile, in another part of the cricketing world, England’s all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt left her mark on the ICC rankings. Her exceptional performance in the final ODI of their ICC Women’s Championship series against Australia led her to achieve the top-ranked batter status for the first time in her career. Natalie’s explosive knock of 129, following an unbeaten 111 in the previous match, took her ahead of Australia’s Beth Mooney in the rankings. Natalie Sciver-Brunt’s consistency across all departments also allowed her to extend her lead at the top of the all-rounders’ rankings, with a notable 39 rating points margin over West Indies captain Hayley Matthews.
