In a thrilling match between Rajasthan Royals(RR) and Gujarat Titans(GT) on Sunday. In an unexpected turn of events, Rajasthan’s opener, Jos Buttler, was dismissed for a duck by Mohammad Shami. This was the second time Buttler was dismissed for zero in his IPL career.
It was also Buttler’s first IPL duck in 85 innings, the last one having come in 2016 when he was playing for the Mumbai Indians against the Rising Pune Supergiants.
Before the duck, Buttler had been in fine form in the current season, having scored three half-centuries in his team’s first four games. He was also the highest run-scorer in the 2022 edition of the IPL and won the ‘Orange Cap’ award.

In the match, the Rajasthan Royals had a tough start to their innings, losing young Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second over. Buttler’s dismissal only added to their woes.

His dismissal was the result of an attempted scoop shot that went awry. The 33-year-old tried to play a ramp shot over fine leg, but the ball hit his stumps, and he had to walk back to the pavilion without scoring any runs.

Buttler’s wicket was a massive blow for the Royals, as they lost their second wicket with just four runs on the board.

Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan Royals, claiming two wickets. Unfortunately, the Royals eventually lost the match by 38 runs, as they failed to chase down the Titans’ total of 177.

Stars from the Rajasthan Royals

On RR’s end, they broke their three-game losing streak against the reigning champions and now sit atop the IPL table with eight points.

Despite a rough start where the Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler early on and only managed 26 runs in the powerplay, Hetmyer’s unbeaten 56 off just 26 balls turned the game around. His innings included two fours and five sixes and helped Rajasthan win with just four balls remaining. Sanju Samson also played a crucial role, smashing 60 off 32 balls.

Gujarat Titans had initially been in trouble, but Shubman Gill’s 45 off 32 and Hardik Pandya’s 28 off 20 helped them recover and post 177 for seven. David Miller’s 46 off 30 balls and Abhinav Manohar’s 27 off 13 added the final touches to their innings. However, it wasn’t enough to stop Rajasthan from securing their victory.

Reports Before the Match

While things did not turn out great against RR, Buttler has shown an amazing performance in other matches. In their previous game against the Chennai Super Kings, the 32-year-old had scored a quickfire 52 runs off just 36 balls, which proved crucial in their three-run win.

Before the match, Gujarat Titans already had a perfect record against Rajasthan Royals, having beaten them thrice last year, including the final game. In IPL 2023, the Sanju Samson-led team had won three out of four games, with back-to-back victories over Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.

Buttler’s recent duck may have come as a disappointment for his fans, but the Englishman is known for his ability to bounce back from failures. With his explosive batting skills, Buttler is likely to come back strongly in the upcoming matches and make a significant impact for the Royals.
