The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has seen its fair share of ups and downs, and one of the latest twists involves Litton Das, the Bangladeshi cricketer who had to return home after playing just one match due to a family emergency. Kolkata Knight Riders have named Johnson Charles as a replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

Litton Das joined the KKR squad late due to international commitments, and unfortunately, his debut match didn’t go as planned. In the game against the Delhi Capitals, he managed to score only four runs and missed two stumping opportunities, making it a forgettable outing behind the stumps.

Litton Das’ Departure

It was a few days ago that the young player reportedly traveled back to Bangladesh to attend a family emergency.

KKR released a statement saying, “Litton Das has had to return to Bangladesh earlier today (Friday 28 April) due to an urgent family medical emergency. Our wishes go out to him and his family to make it through this difficult time.” The 28-year-old, who was signed by KKR for INR 50 lakh in the 2023 IPL auction, was dropped from the team after playing only one game against Delhi Capitals.

At that time, KKR was sitting seventh in the points table with three wins from eight matches.

Litton’s Last Game

In the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played their third home game against Chennai Super Kings and were hoping to come back to winning ways. After three consecutive losses, the Knight Riders needed a win to turn their campaign around. Despite making four changes in their last game, KKR couldn’t get the desired result and thus made a few more changes to their playing line-up for the CSK game.

KKR replaced Litton Das with David Wiese, a veteran all-rounder from South Africa and Namibia, and brought back N Jagadeesan as the Indian wicketkeeper. Despite Jason Roy’s 43 runs, KKR hoped for improvements from the rest of the lineup, with Nitish Rana performing well and Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer looking to regain form. Andre Russell was the only bright spot for the team’s batting, and if he continued to perform well, it would make for an exciting match against CSK spinners at Eden Gardens.

The Replacement

KKR’s new addition, Johnson Charles, has an impressive track record in T20 cricket. He has played 224 T20s and has scored over 5600 runs. Charles has also represented West Indies in 41 T20Is, where he scored 971 runs and was part of the 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20-winning squads.

However, Charles won’t be available for KKR’s next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, as his arrival date is yet to be confirmed. Nonetheless, fans can look forward to seeing him in action soon.

As KKR takes on the remaining games of the tournament, the team can take heart in knowing that they have a strong replacement for Das in Johnson Charles. Fans can look forward to watching the West Indian cricketer in action soon.
