Mazandarani as U Mumba’s New Coach for PKL 2023
U Mumba announced the appointment of Gholamreza Mazandarani, KC Suthar, and Jeeva Kumar as the new coaches for Season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League. Gholamreza Mazandarani is making a return for his second term with U Mumba after leading the team to the playoffs in 2018. On the other hand, KC Suthar, a respected Indian coach, will be making his inaugural appearance in the Pro Kabaddi League. Joining them is former U Mumba player and renowned Indian Kabaddi icon Jeeva Kumar, who will take on the role of Defensive Coach.

Gholamreza Mazandarani currently holds the position of head coach for Iran’s national Kabaddi team, a role he will continue for the upcoming Asian Games set to take place later this year. He gained significant recognition for his coaching prowess by guiding Iran to a historic Asian Games Gold in 2018, a remarkable achievement that saw them surpass India for the first time ever. Notably, Mazandarani’s sporting journey began as a professional freestyle wrestler, eventually transitioning to Judo and Kabaddi. An exceptional feat sets him apart – he has both captained and coached Iran in Kabaddi at the Asian Games.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost Kabaddi strategists, Mazandarani holds a special distinction as the first international coach in the Pro Kabaddi League. He made his debut in Season 6 with U Mumba, leading the team to the playoffs and showcasing his exceptional acumen for the sport.
A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
Joining Gholamreza Mazandarani is KC Suthar, a figure of high respect in the Kabaddi coaching arena. Suthar’s credentials include serving as the former coach of the Indian national team. He also made a significant impact as the Head Coach of Iran’s national team, steering them to a Silver medal at the Kabaddi World Cup held in Ahmedabad in 2016.
Suthar’s influence extends to his tenure as the coach of the esteemed Sports Authority of India’s Kabaddi team from 1986 to 2016. During this period, he oversaw the training of numerous athletes across their centers in Gandhinagar and Mumbai.
KC Suthar’s coaching skill has fostered the development and achievements of numerous present and former players of the Pro Kabaddi League. Big names like Manpreet Singh, Pankaj Shirsat, Neer Gulia, and former U Mumba player Rakesh Kumar have flourished under his guidance and success.
Hailing from Kanyakumari, Jeeva Kumar is a successful Kabaddi legend of India and U Mumba. He secured a Gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and holds a significant place in the U Mumba legacy, having been an integral part of the team as a player from the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) up to Season 4. He clinched the championship title in 2015.
Throughout his tenure with U Mumba, spanning 52 matches, Jeeva Kumar made a remarkable impact, accumulating 164 points. He established himself as a preeminent Left Cover defender on a global scale. His contributions were vital to U Mumba’s success and recognition.
Following his unforgettable second PKL title as a player with Dabang Delhi in Season 8, Jeeva Kumar transitioned to the role of an Assistant Coach for UP Yoddhas, assisting them in securing a Playoff berth. In the forthcoming Season 10, Jeeva Kumar will take on the role of Defensive Coach alongside KC Suthar and Gholamreza, continuing to contribute his expertise and experience.
On making a comeback to U Mumba, legend Jeeva stated, “U Mumba is my Home. I have played for this franchise for the first four years of my PKL career and have incredible memories on and off-court.”
