The remaining semi-finalists are confirmed for the 2022 World Cup with Morocco winning 1-0 and France winning 2-1. They will face each other on December 14, Wednesday.
Right from the start, Morocco and Portugal were equally aggressive in their attack. It was in the 42nd minute of the match that Morocco scored thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri. It was a great leap from the player to head it past the Portugal keeper.
In the second half of the game, Portugal dominated possession and fought hard for an equalizer. They had a golden opportunity in the 83rd minute of the game with Joao Felix. Unfortunately, the spectacular shot failed with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou deflecting the ball.
Morocco held on for a historic win and became the first African team ever to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the other match, it was an intense match from the start for England against the defending champions. France dominated possession and took the lead in the 16th minute with Aurelien Tchouameni scoring the goal with an amazing shot. This was Tchouameni’s second international goal.
England fought hard for an equalizer, but Hugo Lloris kept them at bay. At the end of the first half, the score remained 1-0.
In the 54th minute of the game, England got a penalty and Harry Kane stepped up and converted. With the score tied at 1-1, both teams went in search of a 2nd goal.
It was in the 77th minute of the game that France took back their lead with Olivier Giroud scoring the team’s second goal with a close-range header.
England had another shot at a goal in the 84th minute with a penalty kick, but Harry Kane’s skied his shot and France held on to secur their spot in the semi-finals.
