Mushfiqur Rahim, the talented Bangladesh batsman, has reached his career-best ranking in Tests. He showcased his incredible skills in the one-off Test match against Ireland earlier this month, where he scored a whopping 177 runs. This remarkable performance helped him climb up five places to 17th position, amassing a career-high of 674 rating points.

This isn’t the first time the 35-year-old has secured the 17th position on the rankings. He first reached this spot a year ago after playing against Sri Lanka in May 2022. However, this time, he has managed to accumulate more rating points, making it his career-best ranking.

Rahim’s Other Recent Accomplishments

Before his rise in the ranks, Rahim recently made another accomplishment. In the second ODI against Ireland in Sylhet, Rahim made history by hitting the fastest ODI century for Bangladesh.

He reached his hundred off the final ball of the innings, taking only 60 balls to get there. His innings were laced with 14 fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 166.66, surpassing the previous record of a 63-ball ton by Shakib Al Hasan, which was set against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2009.

Rahim’s brilliant century came in as he walked into bat at number six in the 34th over of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 100 as Bangladesh made their highest-ever ODI total of 349/6 in 50 overs, bettering their previous highest total of 338 runs.

In addition, Rahim also became the third Bangladesh batter after Shakib and Tamim Iqbal to reach 7000 ODI runs. Rahim now has nine ODI centuries, standing equal with Shakib in a list led by Iqbal, who has 14 tons to his name.

Rise in the Ranks

When it comes to the Test rankings, Mushfiqur is not the only player from the Bangladesh team who has climbed up the list. The spin duo of Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan have also received rewards on the list of bowlers. Taijul, who took a five-wicket haul during the first innings of the match, has moved up three places to 20th in the rankings, making it his career-best position.

Shakib, the Bangladesh skipper, has also shown remarkable progress by improving two spots to equal 26th in the rankings, following his fantastic figures of 2/26 when opening the bowling in the second innings.

Ranking Drops

two places to 16th in the batting rankings. Despite dropping two places, Liton Das is still in the best position for Bangladesh.

In addition to Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has dropped four places in the rankings and is now tied with Shakib at number 26. On the other hand, Ebadot Hossain has made an impressive jump of 15 places in the rankings and is now at number 67 among Test bowlers.

Currently, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne tops the rankings of Test batters, while India’s Ravichandran Ashwin tops the bowlers’ list.

Overall, Bangladesh’s Test team has shown great progress in the rankings, and these individual performances have contributed significantly to their success. Their fans hope to see more positive changes in the future.
