Ravindra Jadeja Reaches Career Milestone
Indian cricket all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has reached a new milestone in T20 cricket by taking his 200th wicket during a match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Jadeja achieved the feat with a strong performance, taking two wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs. This now takes his total wickets in T20 cricket to 200, with an average of 30.25 and an economy rate of 7.54.
Jadeja has played in 296 T20 matches, including 214 IPL matches, and has established himself as one of the most reliable all-rounders in the format. He has taken 51 wickets in 64 T20Is for India, with his best bowling figures being 3/15.
Other Achievements and Results of the Match
Following the match, Jadeja is the ninth Indian to take 200 wickets in T20 cricket. In the Indian Premier League, the left-arm spinner has scored 2531 runs and taken 138 wickets at an economy of 7.58. His T20 record is equally impressive, with 3198 runs and 200 wickets to his name at an economy of 7.54.
Despite Jadeja and MS Dhoni’s efforts, CSK fell short by three runs in their pursuit of RR’s 176-run target. The match was a thrilling one, with both teams giving it their all. RR emerged victorious in the end, beating CSK by a narrow margin.
Jadeja’s Other Achievements
Before reaching the wicket milestone, Jadeja reached another milestone in February. The achievement was reached during the first day of the 2nd Test of India-Australia at the Arjun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Jadeja’s three vital wickets, including that of Usman Khawaja, who was batting on 81, helped India take the lead in the game.
The dismissal of Khawaja was historic as it saw Jadeja complete 250 wickets, becoming the second-fastest player in the world and the quickest Indian to reach the milestone of scoring 2500 runs and taking 250 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja achieved this feat in 62 Test matches, second only to Ian Botham, who took 55 games to reach the milestone.
Jadeja is the fifth Indian to reach this milestone after Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravichandran Ashwin. He surpassed former Pakistan captain Imran Khan (64 matches) and Kapil Dev (65 matches) to achieve the milestone.
As impressive as his career is, Jadeja remains behind some of the greatest T20 wicket-takers of all time. The top five wicket-takers in T20Is are Shakib al Hasan, Tim Southee, Rashid Khan, Ish Sodhi, and Lasith Malinga. Meanwhile, in the IPL, Jadeja ranks as the 11th-highest wicket-taker, behind players such as Dwayne Bravo, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Lasith Malinga.
CSK After the Match
In addition to Jadeja reaching his milestone, MS Dhoni also reached the milestone of captaining 200 matches.
Following their loss, Skipper Dhoni gave a post match statement on how he believed that the middle overs’ lull was the reason for their three-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals in the IPL match in Chennai on Wednesday. Dhoni was disappointed with Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, and Moeen Ali’s inability to get going between the 7th to 15th over, which he thought had decided the match.
However, he praised his team’s bowlers, and on his quickfire 32 off 17 balls, he said he waits for the bowlers to commit a few errors, and his strength is to look to hit straight. Meanwhile, winning skipper Sanju Samson credited his side’s bowlers for staying calm even as the match became tense towards the end.
CSK will now prepare for a match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 17.
