On Thursday, Rajasthan Royals (RR) put on an impressive display of cricket as they took on Chennai Super Kings(CSK) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With a brilliant half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Royals registered the highest total of the season at 202 for 5. Jaiswal continued his impressive run of form and scored his third fifty of the tournament, with Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel providing the final flourish.

Earlier, Jaiswal started aggressively, hitting boundaries all around the ground. He targeted Akash Singh, hitting three fours in the very first over. Jaiswal raced to his half-century in 26 balls, with Jos Buttler also joining the party and stitching an 86-run opening stand before Ravindra Jadeja brought an end to Buttler’s sedate knock.

Jaiswal was delighted with his performance and playing with Buttler, saying, “I am enjoying playing with Jos Buttler. There is no secret really. I love playing proper cricket shots and keeping the tempo high.” Buttler fell to Ravindra Jadeja for 27 off 21 balls, and Sanju Samson departed for 17, leaving Jaiswal to continue to dominate.

Due to his performance with the bat, Jaiswal was given the Player of the Match award. He scored 77 runs, hitting eight wonderful fours and four huge sixes.

Other Performances from RR

Aside from Jaiswal’s performance, the RR spinners completely choked CSK and never allowed them to build momentum. RR captain Sanju Samson’s decision to bowl spin from both ends proved to be a game-changer. Even though Gaikwad kept stealing boundaries, Zampa was able to get rid of the dangerman. Ashwin then snared two wickets, further denting CSK’s chances. However, Dube’s half-century with four sixes and two fours gave CSK a glimmer of hope, but he couldn’t take his side over the line.

Returning for his second spell, Tushar Deshpande dismissed skipper Sanju Samson and also got the prized wicket of Jaiswal, who was batting with aplomb, in the 14th over. The CSK bowlers were able to restrict the boundaries after the wicket and then fashioned a mini-batting collapse.

Chennai’s Performance and Statement

Chennai’s Ruturaj Gaikwad had a quick start, scoring 47 off 29 balls, but was eventually dismissed by Adam Zampa, who took 3-22. Chennai’s wickets tumbled, including the in-form Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu. Shivam Dube kept Chennai in the game with 52 off 33 balls, but wickets continued to fall, including Moeen Ali, who fell to Zampa for 23.

Chennai skipper MS Dhoni was disappointed with the loss, saying, “I think it was the first six overs that took the game away from us.” Rajasthan’s spinners kept things in check, with Zampa and Ravichandran Ashwin taking five wickets between them.

With this win, the Rajasthan Royals moved to the top of the IPL table, while CSK dropped down to third. It was an all-around team effort from RR, with their batsmen and spinners putting on an impressive show. If they can continue this form, they are a team to watch out for in the tournament.

RR’s next match will be against the Mumbai Indians on April 30. Meanwhile, CSK is playing against Punjab Kings on the same day.
