The referee for the final World Cup match is confirmed, and it’s Szymon Marciniak. Marciniak will be the first Poland native to referee the World Cup final and joining him on the sidelines are fellow Poles Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz.
Before being chosen for the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, the official had previously refereed matches for both Argentina and France. He took charge of Argentina’s knockout round victory over Australia. He also officiated the France vs Denmark group-stage match, where he handed three yellow cards as a late goal from Kylian Mbappe secured the win for Les Bleus.
Another big tournament that Marciniak refereed for was the 2021/22 Champions League. He was the official for Liverpool’s win over Villareal in the semi-finals which was the first time a Polish official ever took charge of a major European club tournament.
