With all major European domestic leagues underway, many fans are eagerly anticipating the European competitions to kick start. Last season saw Manchester City take home their first Champions League title beating Inter Milan in the final by a Rodri goal.

Sevilla took home a record 7th Europa League title and West Ham won the Europa Conference League, their first European title since 1965. With the European tournament group stage draws set to take place on 31st August, we look at the top 5 ranked clubs in Europe based on the UEFA coefficient club rankings.

The UEFA club coefficient rankings are based on results of clubs competing in the 5 previous seasons of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League respectively. The rankings will determine the seeding of each club for this upcoming European season.

Not surprisingly, Manchester City top the rankings with 145 points based on qualifying for 2 finals, 2 semi-finals and 1 quarter-finals in the past 5 seasons. They played 45 games and lost only 5 of those games. They will be favourites to retain the Champions League and be the first English team to do so since Nottingham Forest in 1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons.

German perennial league champions Bayern Munich are ranked second with 136 points. In the past 5 seasons they have won the Champions League once and qualified three times for the quarterfinals. With the signing of Harry Kane to bolster their attack, Bayern will be looking to secure their 7th Champions League title this season.

Chelsea are ranked 3rd in the rankings with 126 points but their rank is bound to drop as they did not qualify for Europe this season. The Reds made the finals twice in the past 5 seasons winning it once and losing to Real Madrid in 2021/22. However, Liverpool will be competing in the Europa League this season as they were pipped to 4th spot in the English Premier League by Newcastle. The Reds will be the highest ranked team in the Europa League tournament and will be looking for their 4th Europa League title. Manager Jurgen Klopp has won all domestic titles and the Champions League and will be determined to add the Europa League to his trophy cabinet.

In 5th place are the European giants, Real Madrid with 121 points. The 14-times Champions League winners won the trophy 2 seasons ago and made the semi-finals on 2 other occasions in the past 5 seasons.
Big summer signing Jude Bellingham is expected to carry the team along with young Frenchmen, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga who form a young but talented midfield trio in their pursuit of a record-breaking 15th Champions League title.

Other notable team rankings are Paris Saint-Germain at 6th with 112 points followed by Manchester United in 7th with 104 points. 5-times winners, Barcelona are 9th with 98 points. Who will dominate Europe this season? Everyone will eagerly await the group stage draw and make their predictions.
