Virat Kohli Reaches Two IPL Milestones

In a thrilling match at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper Virat Kohli proved why he is one of the best batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli smashed 61 runs off the Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling attack, which included some breathtaking shots.

This bat was Kohli’s second fifty of the season, and he has been in tremendous form throughout the IPL. He achieved a significant milestone during the match by equalling Shikhar Dhawan’s record for most 50+ scores in the IPL. Kohli now has 51 such scores to his name, which includes five centuries.

However, Kohli didn’t stop there. He also equaled his former RCB teammate Chris Gayle’s record for most 60+ scores in the IPL. Both Kohli and Gayle have achieved this feat 33 times, putting them in the second spot on the list. David Warner leads the table with 37 such scores.

Kohli’s brilliant performance has put him in an elite company of players who have made significant contributions to the IPL over the years.

Reactions to a Milestone

While there were plenty who cheered for Kohli’s achievement, there was one person that stood out. And that person was Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma.

Anushka Sharma is no stranger to cheering for her husband, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, during his matches. The Bollywood actress was spotted in the stands, cheering for her husband’s IPL team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, in their match against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Pictures of Anushka from the stadium quickly went viral, showing the actress beaming with joy as Kohli smashed a stunning half-century against LSG.

However, not everyone was happy with Kohli’s milestone. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull criticized Virat Kohli for his strike rate post-powerplay.

Despite the impressive performance, Doull pointed out that the player took ten balls to score the next eight runs to reach his half-century. Doull claimed that Kohli was too concerned about his milestone and was not putting the team first.

This is not the first time Doull has made such comments. Last month, during the Pakistan Super League, he attacked Babar Azam for prioritizing his century after taking 14 deliveries to complete the milestone from 83 off 46. Doull claimed that both players should focus on the team rather than personal milestones.

Other Stars in the Match

While Doull’s comment may have raised some eyebrows, there was no denying that Kohli’s knock was crucial in RCB’s imposing total of 212 for two against Lucknow Super Giants. Kohli, along with Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, slammed a blistering half-century to power the team to a huge score.

It was however, thanks to the efforts of Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis that led the Lucknow Super Giants to a thrilling one-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Pooran’s remarkable 62 runs off 19 balls, including the season’s fastest fifty in just 15 balls, turned the match around for LSG.

Despite a rough start, Stoinis and Pooran kept LSG in the hunt, with Stoinis reaching his fifty in 26 balls. Pooran then stole the show with seven sixes and four boundaries, almost single-handedly taking LSG to a spectacular win.

Despite the loss, RCB remains a strong team in IPL 2023 and will look to bounce back in their next match. Meanwhile, LSG will be riding high on their victory and hope to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
