Two-time champions West Indies have exited the T20 World Cup after having only won 1 game. Their 31 run win over Zimbabwe was the only highlight of their World Cup with plenty other factors causing this early exit.
The team lost their big hitter Shimron Hetmyer when he missed the plane and was dropped from the squad. It did not help that the team’s batting line-up and skipper Nicholas Pooran struggled with their plays.
The real kicker was the announcement of veteran coach Phil Simmons stepping down from his position. With the coach stepping down at the end of the year, West Indies now must rebuild their team with a relatively new captain in Pooran.
What’s next for West Indies? Prioritizing the hiring of a new coach is key for the West Indies as they look to do better in the next T20 World Cup which they are co-hosting.
