Yashasvi Jaiswal Scores Fastest 50 in IPL History
Yashasvi Jaiswal has set a new record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by hitting the fastest fifty in the tournament’s history, taking just 13 balls to do so. His achievement came as Rajasthan Royals played Kolkata Knight Riders and won the match by nine wickets.
This is the second fastest fifty ever recorded in any form of cricket, after Yuvraj Singh’s famous 12-ball fifty against England in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, which included six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad.
Jaiswal’s innings of 98 not out from 47 balls included five sixes and 12 fours. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the IPL’s leading wicket-taker of all time, after taking four for 25.

Jaiswal’s Performance
His wickets included the dismissal of Kolkata’s captain Nitish Rana and took his career total to 187, surpassing Dwayne Bravo. Chahal’s efforts helped Rajasthan Royals restrict Kolkata Knight Riders to 149 for eight in their 20 overs.
Jaiswal and his partner Sanju Samson then made light work of the target, with an unbroken stand of 121 that saw the Royals win in just 13.1 overs.
The victory gave the Royals a much-needed boost in the race for the IPL playoffs, lifting them to third in the table with 12 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, the Knight Riders’ defeat left them in seventh place with just 10 points from their 12 games.
Other Highlights
Jaiswal’s record-breaking knock started in the first over when Kolkata captain Nitish Rana brought himself on to bowl. Jaiswal smashed Rana for two fours and two sixes in a 26-run over and then hit three fours in a row off the next over from Shardul Thakur. He raced to his fifty in just 13 balls, bettering the previous record held by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins, both of whom had taken 14 balls to reach the milestone.
The win was made all the more impressive by Rajasthan’s fielding display, which included two stunning catches by Trent Boult. The fast bowler also took two wickets in his three overs, conceding just 15 runs.
Chahal’s four wickets took him to 21 for the season, making him the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 IPL campaign. His performance was crucial in restricting Kolkata Knight Riders to a total that was below par.
Kolkata’s Efforts
The match was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which is known for its dry wicket. However, this didn’t stop Kolkata’s opener Venkatesh Iyer from hitting a fighting half-century. After a slow start, Iyer accelerated and reached his fifty off 39 balls, but was eventually dismissed for 57.
Nitish Rana made 22 before becoming Chahal’s first victim, and Iyer was the only other Kolkata player to make a significant contribution with the bat. After a brief time-out, Kolkata lost wickets at regular intervals and was eventually bowled out for 149.
Results of the Match
Jaiswal’s stunning performance left the cricketing fraternity in awe, and he received high praise from cricket pundits and fans alike.
After the match, Jaiswal credited his preparation and self-belief for his success and said, “This is always in my mind, to go out there and play well. It was a nice feeling today. I prepare well, and I trust myself. I know the results will come.”
Rajasthan’s next match is against the Delhi Capitals, while Kolkata will face the Mumbai Indians in their next fixture.
