The schedule for New Zealand’s first tour of Bangladesh in a decade has been announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The two teams will play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Test matches during the tour, following a split format.

After a 10-year gap, New Zealand is set to visit Bangladesh for a series of ODIs and Tests, divided between September and November. The three ODI matches will serve as a warm-up for both teams before the World Cup in India. Both teams are set to encounter each other during the league stage of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The World Cup starts with a match between last time’s runners-up, New Zealand, and defending champions England in Ahmedabad, a rematch of the 2019 final. Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign begins on October 7 against Afghanistan in Dharamsala.

This particular match is scheduled for October 13 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Originally planned as a daytime match, it has been shifted to a day-night format due to a recent alteration in the tournament schedule.

Starting on September 21, the ODI series will offer valuable preparation for both teams ahead of the ODI World Cup scheduled for October-November in India. This tour will especially benefit New Zealand in adapting to subcontinent conditions, following their series against England abroad in August-September.

Upon their arrival in Bangladesh on September 17, New Zealand will compete in all three ODIs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The BCB issued a statement on their website concerning the release of the tour schedule. The statement read, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the itinerary for New Zealand’s tour which includes three ODIs and two Tests and will be played on either side of the ICC Cricket World Cup India 2023. This will be New Zealand’s first ODI and Test series in Bangladesh after 2013. The Tests are a part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship and the first WTC series for Bangladesh in the new cycle.”

The Test series featuring two matches is scheduled to start on November 28. The specific locations for these Test matches have not been disclosed yet. Ahead of the series, the New Zealand team will arrive in Dhaka on November 21 and will engage in a two-day practice match beginning on November 23.

During their previous tour in 2013, New Zealand and the subcontinent team played a two-match Test series that concluded in a 0-0 draw. Subsequently, in the ODI series, the hosts achieved a historic 3-0 victory, while New Zealand managed to secure a win in the lone T20I match, salvaging something from the tour.

Here’s the complete schedule for New Zealand’s 2023 tour of Bangladesh:

1st ODI: September 21 – Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur
2nd ODI: September 23 – Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur
