The much-awaited ODI World Cup is just around the corner, set to take place in India this October and concluding on 19th November. As the anticipation for the tournament builds up, the iconic World Cup trophy is also on the move, embarking on a world tour to promote the cricket extravaganza. As part of this exciting journey, the prestigious trophy will be making its way to Bangladesh on a two-day tour, with a chance of the trophy to be displayed at the Padma Bridge.

BCB Chief Executive, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, announced the thrilling news at a press conference held in Mirpur on Tuesday. The coveted World Cup trophy is scheduled to land in Dhaka on 7th August and will be taken away on 9th August, creating a two-day window of opportunity for fans to get a glimpse of this historical symbol of cricketing greatness.

During its stay in Bangladesh, the trophy will be showcased for public viewing at a prominent shopping mall in the country. The specific venue for the exhibition is yet to be finalized, but the BCB is contemplating holding a photo session with the trophy at the iconic Padma Bridge, which holds immense national pride as a symbol of engineering marvel in Bangladesh.

Beyond its public appearance, the trophy will also pay a visit to the BCB office, where it will be displayed exclusively for the national cricketers and other cricket-related personnel. Nizam Uddin Chowdhury emphasized that this tour is part of the ICC Trophy Tour, a campaign initiated by the International Cricket Council to ignite enthusiasm among cricket lovers before the World Cup commences.

Addressing the media, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury shared, “The Cricket World Cup trophy is being sent to Bangladesh as part of the ICC trophy tour. ICC has done such activities before. It is a campaign by ICC before the World Cup. The trophy will arrive in Bangladesh on 7 August and it will be taken away on the 9th.”

The endeavor of displaying the trophy at a shopping mall holds significant importance, as it aims to allow the general public to be a part of this exceptional occasion. The BCB is exploring options to keep the trophy at the mall for a day, granting an opportunity for fans and cricket enthusiasts to witness the prestigious trophy up close and personal. While negotiations have already taken place with two shopping malls, the final decision on the location is yet to be announced. However, the favored choice seems to be Bashundhara Shopping Complex, given its popularity and accessibility.

“We have already spoken to the authorities of two shopping malls. Probably Bashundhara shopping mall is where we plan. They have one day off each week. Maybe we have to keep adapting like that,” stated Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.

The presence of the World Cup trophy is expected to serve as a great motivator for the national team players. It provides an opportunity for the cricketers to get inspired by the historical significance of the trophy and adds an extra layer of excitement, especially for those who will be participating in the World Cup for the first time.

“Of course. All of our people who are or will be in the national team have been involved with our cricket before. I think they have had this experience before. However, there will be an added interest for those who will take part (in the World Cup) for the first time this year,” remarked Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
