RCB VS CSK IPL Match Reaches Viewership Record
In a nail-biting match that had everyone on the edge of their seats, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced off against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an exciting game that broke all digital viewership records.
With a total of 2.4 crore viewers watching the game live on JioCinema at one point, the ‘Southern Derby’ beat the previous record of 2.2 crore viewers set during the game between Chennai and Rajasthan Royals. This is an incredible feat for both teams, and fans all over the world are still talking about it.
The BCCI has given TV and digital broadcasting rights to various companies for this Tata IPL season 2023, and digital platforms are reaping the benefits. Jio-Cinema is streaming IPL matches for free, which is boosting viewership on the digital platform. The company claims that millions of new viewers are connecting to IPL daily through its streaming app.
How the Match Turned Out
The match itself was a thrilling encounter that saw CSK win by just eight runs, thanks to some amazing batting by Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, and Ambati Rayudu. They put up an incredible score of 226 runs in the first half of the game, setting a high bar for RCB to chase.
RCB had a tough start, losing the wickets of Virat Kohli and Mahipal Lomror in the first two overs. However, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell played some brilliant cricket to get their team back into the game. Du Plessis posted 62 runs off 33 deliveries, while Maxwell hit an impressive 76 runs off 36 deliveries.
Despite their best efforts, RCB couldn’t quite finish the game on their terms, and CSK’s Matheesha Pathirana conceded just four runs in the crucial 18th over. RCB lost their third game of the season and is now seventh on the IPL Points Table, while CSK is third on the ladder.
Memorable Moments in the Match
In addition to amazing performances that led to a victory for CSK, there were plenty of other highlights that happened during the match. While on the field, Ajinkya Rahane’s stunning save stole the show. The moment came when Glenn Maxwell hit a shot over long-off, but Rahane’s overhead attempt saved a certain six, flicking the ball back into the ground just in time. Rahane’s brilliant effort saved five runs for CSK.
While things looked great on CSK’s end, things were unexpectedly rough on RCB’s end. The match saw RCB’s captain, Virat Kohli, facing a bizarre dismissal that left everyone, including his wife Anushka Sharma, in disbelief. Kohli was in excellent form, having already scored three half-centuries in the tournament, and was much needed by RCB in their chase of 227. However, in just the second over of the innings, he was dismissed by a play-on off Tushar Deshpande’s bowling.
Kohli’s dismissal was particularly unusual as he had attempted to whip a length delivery down the leg side and missed it, with the ball hitting his pads and then his boot, causing it to trickle onto the stumps and dislodge a bail. The dismissal had Kohli and his fans frozen to their spots in disbelief, with Twitterati having a field day over the unusual nature of the dismissal.
With this win, CSK climbed to third place on the IPL Points Table, while RCB slipped to seventh place.
