Mumbai Indians got off to an amazing start in the 25th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. The team’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, gave them a fantastic start by scoring a quick 28 off just 18 balls. This was made even more special as Rohit also reached the 6000-run mark in IPL history.

Rohit Sharma hit three consecutive fours off Washington Sundar in the third over to give his innings a boost. He is now only the fourth cricketer to score 6000 runs in IPL history, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and David Warner.

Rohit has scored 6014 runs in 232 IPL matches, with an average of 30.22 and a strike rate of 130.03. He also has one century and 41 fifties to his name.

Mumbai Indians were 42/1 after five overs, with Rohit’s contribution being six fours. While he did get caught out while attempting a flick shot, Rohit’s quickfire knock set the tone for the rest of the team’s innings.

While he did not top the scoring charts, Rohit Sharma is still the most successful captain in IPL history, having led the Mumbai Indians to five titles since 2013. The 35-year-old is also a former IPL winner, having lifted the trophy with the Deccan Chargers in 2009 before joining Mumbai in 2011.

Other Players Who Reached the Milestone

Among the players who hold the most IPL runs, Virat Kohli, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, leads the scoring chart in IPL with 6844 runs from 228 IPL games. He is expected to become the first-ever cricketer to reach the 7000-run mark. Kohli has already registered three fifties from five innings in IPL 2023 and is in the running for the Orange Cap.

Shikhar Dhawan has scored 6477 runs in 210 IPL matches, including 233 runs from four innings this season. The Punjab Kings skipper has been in sensational form this season, competing for the Orange Cap once again. David Warner became the first overseas player to reach the elite 6000-run club during his knock of 65 off 55 balls against Rajasthan Royals on April 8, despite Delhi Capitals’ poor start to IPL 2023.

In other milestones, this season, KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants skipper, became the fastest to 4000 runs in IPL history during his latest fifty against Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings stalwart MS Dhoni completed 5000 runs in IPL.

Mumbai Indians Status

Outside of a milestone achieved, Sharma’s team has won their third match in this season’s IPL. The Mumbai Indians had a slow start to IPL 2023, losing their first two games to the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings. However, they bounced back with consecutive victories over the Delhi Capitals and KKR.

Rohit Sharma’s half-century against the Capitals was a significant contribution to Mumbai’s victory, helping them chase down a target of 173 with six wickets in hand. After struggling for runs in the previous few IPL seasons, the veteran cricketer will be eager to continue his good form and lead his team to another title.
