Mumbai Indians Gets 1st Match Win in 2023 IPL
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced plans for a major renovation of at least five major stadiums in India ahead of the ODI World Cup in October-November. Although cricket has become a lucrative industry, fans often lack basic facilities at venues across India.
During the India-Australia Test series in February-March, fans expressed their frustration over the lack of clean toilets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. As a result, Delhi is one of the five venues selected for renovation, along with Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mohali, and Mumbai.
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai had already undergone renovation before the India-Australia ODIs last month after a fan complained about poor sanitary conditions.
The cost of renovation for the five venues runs into hundreds of crores, and the projected cost of roof renovation is not a possibility in Delhi due to structural flaws at the venue.

Plans for the Renovation
The renovation plans include landscape and interior work, development of media centers in Delhi and Kolkata, setting up of digital and entertainment kiosks, upgradation of stadium chair foldable and light fixtures, and installation of WiFi systems, among others.
It will cost Rs 100 crore to revamp the Delhi stadium, Rs 117.17 crore for Hyderabad, Rs 127.47 crore for the iconic Eden Gardens at Kolkata, Rs 79.46 crore for the aging PCA stadium in Mohali and Rs 78.82 crore for Wankhede. The costs increase drastically if roof work is involved.
Twelve venues have been shortlisted to host World Cup games, including Ahmedabad, the likely venue for the final, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai.
A total of 48 games will be played in the 46-day event, with Ahmedabad being the likely venue for the final. India last hosted the ODI World Cup in 2011, and fans are eagerly awaiting this year’s event, hoping for better facilities and an exciting tournament.
Other News on the BCCI
Before the stadium upgrade announcement and as of last October, the BCCI increased the daily allowances of its office bearers to USD 1000 per day and first-class travel during foreign tours.
This change was discussed at the Apex Council meeting on Sunday, along with other new allowances for office bearers, including Rs 40,000 per day for meetings within India, Rs 30,000 per day for work travel, and suite room bookings for both domestic and overseas trips.
The IPL chairman’s allowances were also included. BCCI Apex Council members will receive Rs 40,000 per day for their quarterly meetings and USD 500 on overseas tours, while BCCI state unit members will receive Rs 30,000 per day during domestic travel and USD 400 on foreign travel.
It is important to note that BCCI office bearer positions are honorary. Well-paid BCCI employees like the CEO will receive a daily allowance of USD 650 on foreign tours and Rs 15,000 per day within India.
This decision has caused a buzz among cricket fans and the media. Especially on the topic of how expenses will be used for other projects following the decision.
