Kusal Perera scored fifty runs and Hayden Kerr took three wickets, propelling Dambulla Aura into the final of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). They secured a seven-wicket victory over Galle Titans in Qualifier 1 held on Thursday.

After winning the coin toss, Dambulla Aura made an early breakthrough with the ball. Binura Fernando dismissed Banuka Rajapaksa on the second delivery of the innings, without allowing him to score any runs. Litton Das also joined Rajapaksa in leaving the field after contributing eight runs to the team’s total of 25.

Meanwhile, Lasith Croospulle played a key role for Galle Titans, partnering effectively with Shakib Al Hasan to amass a strong 51-run alliance off 38 balls. However, Shakib Al Hasan’s innings came to an end due to Dhananjaya de Silva’s efforts.

In the end, he was dismissed in the final over after playing a well-thought-out innings of 80 runs from 61 balls, including seven boundaries. The entire team was dismissed for a total score of 146 on the last ball of their innings. Apart from Croospulle and Shakib, only two more batsmen from Galle Titans were able to score more than ten runs.

A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances

Hayden Kerr spearheaded Dambulla Aura’s bowling attack with an impressive performance, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs. Noor Ahmed also made a valuable contribution by securing two wickets for 27 runs. Hasan Ali, Fernando, and de Silva each took one wicket apiece.

Chasing Galle Titans’ total of 146 to secure their place in the LPL 2023 final, Dambulla Aura got off to a fast start, reaching 29 runs in the initial three overs. However, opener Avishka Fernando was removed by Shakib Al Hasan. Fernando had a brisk innings, making 24 runs off 14 balls, including three sixes and one boundary.

Following Fernando’s dismissal, the scoring pace decreased for Dambulla Aura. Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama then formed a careful partnership, adding 31 runs from 29 deliveries.

Nevertheless, Seekkuge Prasanna dismissed Samarawickrama, causing Dambulla Aura’s score to become 64-2.

Kusal Perera entered the field with Dambulla Aura requiring 83 runs from 69 deliveries. He began cautiously but accelerated in the later stages of the innings. Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis played a steady role throughout the innings as they constructed a partnership of 69 runs from 56 balls. However, Tabraiz Shamsi managed to dismiss Mendis.

Kusal Mendis compiled 49 runs from 45 deliveries, which included seven boundaries. In contrast, Kusal Perera reached his half-century in 36 balls, culminating it with a six. However, on the opening delivery of the ultimate over and with the scores level, Perera struggled as he hit a slow full toss back to Dasun Shanaka, the bowler. Alex Ross subsequently secured the last run to confirm Dambulla Aura’s victory. Kusal Perera played a crucial innings, amassing 53 runs from 39 balls, comprising four boundaries and three sixes.

With this win, Dambulla Aura secured their place in the LPL final scheduled for August 20. On the other hand, Galle Titans still have an opportunity to qualify. They will compete in the Qualifier 2 match on Sunday against the victor of tonight’s Eliminator game between defending champions Jaffna Kings and B-Love Kandy.
