Litton Das To Miss First Match in Asia Cup
Just before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, the Bangladesh Cricket Team faced a significant setback. Key batsman Litton Das won’t be able to participate in their opening match against Sri Lanka due to a reported fever.
Litton Das was unable to accompany the team to Sri Lanka on August 27 due to his fever. Initially planned to join the team on August 28, his fever persisted at a high grade, preventing his inclusion. There were discussions about finding a replacement for him in the team, but the team management chose not to bring in a backup player.
“He was supposed to board the flight today but unfortunately he is yet to recover from the fever he suffered all of a sudden,” selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Habibul Bashar Sumon said today.
“We are waiting for his update. When he will recover, he will board the flight. But it is certain he won’t play the first game.”
According to BCB’s medical department, Litton Das underwent a test today, and his condition moving forward will hinge on the outcome of this test.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s International Cricket Career
Litton Das is set to rejoin the team in time for their second match against Afghanistan, scheduled for Sunday, September 3rd. He will be flying directly to Pakistan and will link up with the team before the match. The Bangladesh team has a demanding schedule in the tournament due to the hybrid model being used.
Once the initial match in Sri Lanka and the subsequent one in Pakistan are concluded, if Bangladesh progresses to the Super Four stage, the challenges will intensify. They are scheduled to compete in their initial Super Four game in Pakistan and will then need to transition back to Sri Lanka for the remaining two Super Four matches. This complex travel arrangement adds an extra layer of difficulty to their tournament journey.
The absence of Litton Das could potentially have a significant impact on Bangladesh’s performance in the highly anticipated upcoming matches, especially given that Tamim Iqbal is also unable to participate in the tournament. Litton Das, a key player in the team, holds considerable importance, and his role will be crucial for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023.
Previously, Tamim Iqbal withdrew from the Bangladesh squad due to an injury. He is currently making determined efforts to regain his form in time for the World Cup 2023. Furthermore, fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the tournament due to an ACL-related injury that requires more recovery time. Led by Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh will initiate their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka at Pallekele Stadium on August 31st. Notably, Bangladesh has reached the finals in two out of the last three 50-overs Asia Cup events.
Here’s the Bangladesh squad for the Asia Cup:
Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Tanzim Hasan Sakib
