The Indian team is currently facing a major setback ahead of the ICC World Test Championship finals. With injuries in the squad, the team management is in a race against time to find replacements before the much-anticipated game against the Aussies at The Oval on June 7-11.

The Indian side was dealt with another blow recently when Jaydev Unadkat, a promising pacer, suffered an injury during the net sessions. He was observed wearing a sling and having an ice pack applied to his left shoulder after taking a bad tumble during his follow-through. This news comes as a major disappointment for the team as they had pinned high hopes on Unadkat’s performance in the finals.

Adding to the Indian team’s woes is the injury to skipper KL Rahul. During a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he hurt either his right hamstring or quadriceps.

How Rahul Got Injured

The injury occurred when KL Rahul dashed to save a boundary in the wide cover region. In the process, he went down clutching his right leg, and the physio was immediately rushed to the ground. Unable to walk properly, he was spotted limping towards the stretcher, and the stadium was hushed in concern.

But KL Rahul did not give up easily. With the support of two physios, he limped off the field, determined to not let the injury get the better of him. However, the extent of his injury is still unknown, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to make a comeback before the WTC Finals.

Aside from Unadkat and Rahul, Umesh Yadav is out due to a hamstring injury. With three key players out, the Indian team management has their work cut out for them as they search for replacements ahead of the WTC Finals.

What’s Next for Team India?

In the absence of these crucial players, Head Coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma are likely to explore other options as replacements. The team might include Arshdeep Singh or right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar on the side to replace Jaydev Unadkat. Meanwhile, the extent of KL Rahul’s injury will determine the need for a replacement player.

Injuries are always a part of sports, but the team can adapt and bounce back which separates the champions from the rest. The Indian team is no stranger to such challenges, and it’s up to the players and the management to regroup and come back stronger.

Upcoming Matches

As the clock ticks down to the finals, fans are eagerly waiting to see how the Indian team will respond to this setback.

Before the announcement of the injured players, the BCCI recently announced the Indian squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final against Australia, to be held at the Oval in London from June 7-11.

Australia finished at the top of the final ICC WTC 2021-23 points standings, while India secured the second spot after defeating Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 test series. This will be India’s second time in the WTC final, with their last being against New Zealand in June 2021, where they lost.
