Galle Titans Down Jaffna Kings in LPL 2023 – Copy
Bangladeshi cricketer Litton Das has received an invitation to join the Lankan Premier League (LPL). The renowned Bangladeshi player is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka on the same day as the announcement of the Asia Cup team (August 12). There, he will be a part of the same team, the Galle Titans, as the national team’s prominent all-rounder captain, Shakib Al Hasan.
Bangladeshi cricketers are making their mark in franchise cricket, with Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Mithun already in Sri Lanka. Another Bangladeshi player, Litton Das, is set to join them. Mohammad Mithun is part of the same team but has not yet secured a spot in the main XI. The Galle Titans have competed in six matches during the league phase, but their performance has been less than ideal, with only two victories. The franchise is placing its hopes on Litton Das to bring about a positive change in their fortunes.
Litton Das made his departure for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) known through a Facebook post on Saturday. Litton Das has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that allows him to participate in the remaining stages of the competition, which is scheduled to continue until August 20.
In the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL), four out of the five competing teams will progress to the playoffs.
The 5-team LPL commenced on July 30 and will extend until August 20. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team is gearing up for the Asia Cup, during which they will not have the services of Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Shoriful Islam. These players are expected to join the team’s camp following the conclusion of the LPL.
A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
Prior to this, Litton Das participated for the Surrey Jaguars in the Global T20 Canada tournament. While the challenging pitch conditions did not significantly favor his strike rate, he consistently contributed with runs. Beyond his role in providing a solid start for the team, the 28-year-old cricketer is also dependable as a wicketkeeper. Galle Titans are currently striving to secure a spot in the top four to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.
Despite being a contender for the ODI captaincy role, Litton Das, who currently serves as the vice-captain, was among the names considered. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board determined that no one could handle the pressure of a major tournament like the World Cup better than Shakib Al Hasan. Litton expressed wholehearted support for Shakib’s leadership, and interestingly, they will now share the same franchise team as well.
Shoriful Islam, a member of the Bangladesh cricket team, is currently in Sri Lanka to take part in the Lanka Premier League (LPL). He is set to represent the Colombo Strikers in the tournament. However, as of now, he has not had the opportunity to play in any matches.
On the other hand, Towhid Hridoy recently concluded his participation after featuring in six matches for the Jaffna Kings. Now, the spotlight shifts to Litton Das as he receives his first call-up to participate in the Sri Lankan tournament.
Litton Das’s involvement in the Lankan Premier League (LPL) presents him with an opportunity to participate in a minimum of two matches. Following the game against the Jaffna Kings, Galle Titans have another match scheduled for August 15 against the Colombo Strikers. With the playoffs featuring four out of the five teams, Galle’s chances of progressing to the next stage will be significantly enhanced if they can stage a comeback in their last two matches. This could potentially prolong the LPL journey for the Shakib-Litton partnership.
